Southern Remoulade Sauce Origins

A remoulade sauce is considered a classic French sauce, but here in the USA, we are more familiar with the Louisiana version. It has more of a cajun and creole taste.

How is it made?

A remoulade sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce, usually made with capers, anchovies, herbs, and spices. But the Louisiana remoulades include mustard, paprika, garlic, and of course that tasty cajun or creole seasoning.

What do you eat it with?

To answer the question, “What do I eat it with?” Here are several ways for your consideration.

  • I like it with french fries, instead of ketchup. It kicks up the flavor.
  • Dipping Fried Green Tomatoes is steller.
  • Po Boy Sandwiches
  • Crab Cakes
  • Fried Fish Sticks
  • Artichokes
  • Fried Chicken
  • Potato Salad
  • Coleslaw
  • Seafood, like oysters or shrimp
  • A dip for vegetables
  • Used as a salad dressing
  • You can also substitute mayo on sandwiches…

Enjoy!
